A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 1)

A Game of Thrones - George R.R. Martin An enjoyable read if a long one (for me). It's definitely the first part of a longer story though it does come to a satisfying break point I suppose (but equally could have ended at various other points on that basis). It's rare I read 'straight fantasy' (as opposed to e.g. Terry Pratchett) but it was very enjoyable. For most of the book it could be set in our world in medieval times - feudal lords, wars and power politics being the majority of the plot - but there were fantastical elements which I suspect will grow in importance in later books.
